What is the Actual Purpose of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by chapstick infrom the time i was a kid i knew something wasn't quite right about jehovah's witnesses.
most of the family on my mom's side are still in.
i'm treated reasonably decent by them due to the fact that i was never baptized.

I left the Witnesses over 10 years ago, but finally went back
by JakeMarley inthe entire time i was gone it was nagging at me.
i hadn't been previously baptized, so leaving wasn't that big a deal.
now i'm back in the swing of it, going to all meetings and field service.

Hello Jake and Welcome!!!
Glad you came here and posted. I hope you will stay a while.
The mistake I made when deciding to study with Jw's (a 2nd time) was FEAR.
It took me some time to figure this out, but that is what propelled me to seek out the JW's.
The WT publications are filled with fearful messages. And it was a time when the 1st Gulf War was taking place.
Fear is not a good reason.
As others have asked, the first thing I thought after reading your post: "Why are you on this site?"
Is there uncertainty about your decision to be baptized?
Once you are baptized, it would not be permitted for you to look at information about JW's outside the WTS publications.
Or to be on this website. Or to question any of the teachings.
Why did you leave 10 years ago?
And is it only fear of surviving Armaggeddon the reason for your studying again?
I have lost 20 years of my life to a LIE. I was waiting for the real life in the new system. For 20 years I made life decisions based on a lie.
Do you want to stop living your life for fear that you will lose your life?
Most witnesses have good intentions, but are in the dark when it comes to the lies and propaganda from the Big Boys in Brooklyn.
They have NOT been truthful regarding the history of the WTS.
Please take your time to search the history:
The failed prophecies from these men.
The child abuse coverups.
The Mind Control tactics that they use. (It is a CULT)
The unnecessay deaths of those who refused blood transfusions.
Captives of a Concept by Don Cameron is an excellent book. Fast and easy to read and really gets to the heart of the 2 main JW tenets regarding the faithful and discreet slave( Matthew 25:45-47) and what every witness recites when there's a change in the teachings " the light gets brighter"( Proverbs 4:18) . It is clear and concise and these beliefs fall like a house of cards.
Raymond Franz book-"Crisis of Conscience" lifts the veil off the inner workings of The Governing Body. Fascinating read.
I haven't yet read Steven Hassan's book;" Combatting Mind Control" but many here also recommend it.
Take time and research before taking the plunge!!!!!!!!!!

Movie - Paradise Recovered- cult exiting focused
by cog_survivor indogpatch posted a couple of years ago about this movie.
i've been following the news on it ever since it was made known to be in production.. the woman who wrote the script for it is a worldwide church of god survivor like myself.
she wanted to show people what it can be like for people who were abused and kicked to the curb by an abusive church and the struggles they have to go through to learn to think for themselves.. their motto is, "we're not anti-religion, just anti cruelty".

A JW told me the reason why the protestors at the Tacoma Dome District Conventions are gone.
by AndersonsInfo ina jw, who i know and trust, sent me the following email:.
"this year in tacoma i met a man at a retail store who said the watchtower societys nwt bible changed the original scriptures, especially john 1:1. he told me he owned all the old wt publications, including studies in the scriptures.
seems his non-jw uncle had collected them.

Fanatical thinking: "I CAN"T WAIT TO BE PERSECUTED!!!"
by rip van winkle inrecently.
a pioneer said to me: " i can't wait to be persecuted!!!".
that kind of thinking is absolutely fanatical.

What if the persecution comes in the form of the most beautiful human male on this earth, who happens to catch her while she's about to fall and she looks into his eyes and her heart melts... and she realizes he's not a Brother and all the pain that causes... I bet she won't be that happy about persecution then.
SAUERKRAUT- Unless she can get him to study with the JW's. She would be determined.
(Actually, that doesn't sound too bad to me. Do you think it could happen? Do you know where he resides? Can you give him my #?)
Wishful thinking.
HOSER- ROOT CANAL!!! TRUTH FAIRY!!! SO FUNNY!!!

Do Jehovah's Witnesses feed the starving in third world countries
by Gnosis in.
or do they only help their own members ?.
is there anything in their publications that seems to cast a negative view on feeding the poor ?.
-
rip van winkle
Give to the poor? Feed the poor? Help the poor materially?
No, they give and feed to the poor "spiritual food".
There may be some, as individuals that do that , but I've never heard about it.
And from what I understand, The Big Boys In Bklyn didn't get involved with natural disasters until they found out that R&F members were doing it on their own. Then they began to organize assistance after disasters.
Charity? Charitable works? Soup kitchens? Education?
The WTS seems to believe the only education any one needs is Bible education to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
The only charity the WTS subscribes to is for themselves.
If I am wrong someone please correct me. Like Pistoff, I would like to see proof.
For many months this thought has nagged at me. How does the WTS get away with being a Charitable Org? Free magazines?

Irondork- I have known quite alot of Jw's like that- some sisters- mostly Brothers!!!!!!!!!!!!

You made an excellent point about wanting persecution to feel worthy. I think you hit the nail on the head!!!!!

Kojacks57- She's a sweet sister. I am worried for her. She is well-treated and loved by all in the Congregation.
Tootired2care- She wasn't raised as a Witness and has no idea about all the failed prophecies, child abuse, and lies from the WTS.
She's maybe baptized 4 years.
KSol- I think the latest visit from the C.o. made a deep impression on her. Maybe? he likened persecution= testament of one's faith. Or maybe? because she had read "Facing the Lion" and was impressed with Simone A. Liebster's story.
Anyway, she wants to prove her faith is strong.
I just never heard anyone say anything like that, ever. And was wondering if any others had heard a similar statement recently.
She is such a trusting person. The opposite of me. I didn't trust anyone. And yet, here I AM!!!!!!!!!
